I worked there two summers and never once heard anyone order it by asking a question. They just said the name, like they already knew, like everyone already knew. I never got a straight answer on what was in it, and I stopped trying to write down a recipe by my second week, because it wasn't the same twice — it moved plate to plate more than it followed a method, and somehow tasted more like a memory than a dessert. Peach first, always, still warm like it had caught the last of the sun. Then blueberry, the kind that stains your fingers and the napkin and doesn't wash out. Citrus off the open door in the summer months. And right at the end, when the room had mostly gone quiet, coconut and vanilla, like the day finally deciding to lie down. I left that job for reasons that had nothing to do with the shop. I think about the shop more than I think about the reasons.
